REMOTE THERMOSTATSThe thermostat turns the boiler on and off at a predetermined temperature by responding to the water temperature. Most thermostats have two major components, a switch and a sensor. Temperature changes affect the sensor, which in turn operates the switch. The rise in temperature creates a break in an electrical circuit to turn the boiler off. when the sensor cools, the circuit is completed and the burner resumes firing. The GP remote probe thermostat is a capillary tube thermostat. It relies on expansion of a viscuous liquid to open or close a switch. Essentially a capillary tube thermostat consists of a sensing bulb and tube with an extremely small internal diameter partially filled with a special compound. The capillary tube thermostat may be mounted some distance from the sensing bulb. Specifications:

IN-LINE THERMOSTATSBimetallic thermostat that relies on the difference in rates of expansion and contraction by various types of metals when they are exposed to temperature changes. The sensor is made of two types of dissimilar metal bonded to each other. When the temperature changes, the two strips expand at different rates. The sensor bends in the direction of the strip which expands the slowest. The thermostat is set by moving a contact either closer or farther from the me-metallic strip. The further the strip has to move to touch the contact, the greater the temperature change before the switch is activated. Specifications:

HIGH LIMIT SWITCHES A High Temperature Limit Switch is used on hot water pressure washers to prevent excessive water temperature. The switch is a bi-metallic, non-adjustable thermostat. When the bi-metallic sensor expands and bends, it breaks an electrical circuit when the water reaches a pre-set temperature. When the switch cools, the metal contracts and the circuit is again completed. The sensor consists of two strips of metal bonded together. The strips expand at different rates when the temperature increases. The differing expansion rate of the two metals allows the sensor to bend. Normally the bi-metallic sensor will touch another contact. The control circuit runs through this connection. As the temperature rises, the bi-metallic sensor bends away from the contact and the circuit is broken, cutting power to the fuel solenoid.
