We receive many emails asking if there is a muffler that will make a certain generator quieter. Most of the noise that people dislike is not from the exhaust but from the engine itself. The noise is from the design of the engine. From the beginning, quiet generators were designed with overhead valves, and have extra webbing in the crankcase to dampen vibrations. Some actually run at half speed to create less engine noise. But sometimes the companies that build the generator do use higher noise (db) mufflers to reduce the cost of the overall unit. The Quiet Muffler was designed and offered by Tecumseh to reduce the exhaust noise that these type units make. |
