How to Install an Ariens Heated Hand Warmer Kit on Your Ariens Snow Blower

The following instructions are for the Ariens #72100800 heated hand grip kit, which is for models 921012 (serial no. 3501 & up), 921013, 921015, 921016, 921305, 921306, 921307, 921311, and 921312. Before attempting to install this kit or work on/with your equipment in anyway, always refer to your owner’s manual for safety information.

Required Tools

  • Utility Knife
  • Adjustable Wrench

Removing the Wiring Harness

  1. Stop the engine.
  2. Allow the unit to come to a complete stop and to cool down.
  3. Detach the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
  4. Disconnect the wire harness from the halogen light.
  5. Locate the wire harness ties that are on the handlebars. Cut them off.
  6. Pull the push pin out of the engine anchor.
  7. Disconnect the wire harness from the engine.

NOTE: Do not remove the flange at the base of the switch mounting hole

Installing the Switch

  1. Cut and remove the decal that is covering the switch mounting hole.
  2. Put the .563 x .040 internal locking washer onto the top of the switch.
  3. Line up the thread gap on the switch with the alignment flange.
  4. Use the .50 x .875 x .024 flat steel washer and nut (included with switch) to secure the switch in place.
  5. Tighten the nut with with your adjustable wrench.

Hand Grip Installation

IMPORTANT: The unit and Loctite epoxy must be between 45 degrees and 80 degrees during installation and curing in order for epoxy to work properly

  1. Cut the current hand grips off of the handlebars and discard them.
  2. Insert the tube cap into the handlebar ends.
  3. Apply one full package of Loctite epoxy evenly throughout the inside of the hand grip.
  4. Slide the hand grip on to the handlebar while rotating the grip around the tube to help evenly distribute the epoxy. Once the hand grips have been inserted completely, position them so that the wire and the standoff are facing inward toward the dash.
  5. Route the wire through the handlebars and below the dash.

IMPORTANT: Follow instructions on epoxy packet for proper mixing and application methods. Make sure to get all of the epoxy inside the hand grip. Open only one package of epoxy at a time. The tube caps have a pin hole to allow for air escape and ease of assembly. Should you encounter any difficulty while sliding the grip onto the handlebar, simply open or enlarge the pin hole to allow the air to escape. Allow the epoxy to cure for 24 hours before using the unit.

Installing the Wire Harness.

  1. Connect the new harness to the engine.
  2. Insert the push pin into the engine anchor, and then attach the ties to the handlebars.
  3. Plug in the halogen light and insert the cable harness push pins into the mounts above the light.
  4. Connect the wire harness to the right and left hand grip wires and to the on/off switch.
  5. Make sure the wires do not interfere with any moving parts or pinch points. Use the additional cable ties or electrical tape to secure the wires underneath the dash wherever necessary.
  6. Reconnect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.

Operation

  1. Start engine and flip the switch up.
  2. Wait a few minutes and verify that the handle grips begin to warm up.
  3. If the handlebars do not begin to get warm, turn off the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
  4. Disconnect the spark plug wire and check all connections to ensure proper installation.
