How to Replace a Blade for a Husqvarna HU800AWD

The following instructions are for the Husqvarna HU800AWD Lawn Mower, which is for the part number 96145001100. Before attempting to work on/with your equipment in any way, always refer to your owner's manual for safety information.

For best results, the mower blade must be kept sharp. Replace bent or damaged blades.

To Remove Blade

  1. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug and place the wire where it can't come into contact with the plug.
  2. Turn the lawn mower on its side. Make sure the air filter and carburetor are up.
  3. Use a wood block between the blade and the mower housing to prevent the blade from turning when removing the blade bolt.
  4. Note: Protect your hands with gloves and/or wrap the blade with heavy cloth.
  5. Remove the blade bolt by turning counterclockwise.
  6. Remove the blade and attaching hardware (bolt, lock-washer, and hardened washer).
  7. Remove the debris shield.
  8. Note: Remove the blade adapter and check the key inside the hub of the blade adapter. The key must be in good condition to work properly. Replace the adapter if damaged.

To Replace Blade

  1. Position the blade adapter on the engine crankshaft. Be sure the key adapter and crankshaft keyway are aligned; and that the drive belt is inside the tab of the belt retainer.
  2. Install the debris shield.
  3. Position the blade on the blade adapter.
  4. Important: To ensure proper assembly, the center hole in the blade must align with star on the blade adapter.
  5. Be sure the trailing edge of the blade (opposite of the sharp edge) is up toward the engine.
  6. Install the blade bolt with the lock-washer and hardened washer into the blade adapter and crankshaft.
  7. Use a block of wood between the blade and lawn mower housing and tighten the blade bolt, turning clockwise.
  8. The recommended tightening torque is 35-40 ft. lbs.
  9. Important: The blade bolt is heat treated, if the bolt need replacing, replace only with the approved bolt.
