How to Replace the PTO belt on an Ariens Zoom Zero Turn
The power take off belt, or PTO belt for short is vital in making your blades spin.
When your blades don’t seem to be functioning correctly the PTO belt could be at fault. It is very important to check the belt for twists, dry rot, or any other damage that may prevent the system from working properly.
If it is time for your mower to have it’s PTO belt replaced, but you aren’t sure where to begin, here is a guide to help you remove and replace your PTO belt and get your mower running like new!
Be sure to consult your owner’s manual for model specific information about maintenance.
What you will need:
- Ariens Zoom Zero Turn Mower
- New PTO Belt
- Socket Set
Removing Old Belt
Be sure mower deck is lowered to the ground.
Remove the belt covers from the mower deck.
Pull the idler arm toward the outside of the unit until tension is removed from the PTO belt.
Slowly release the idler arm until tension is removed from the idler spring.
Remove the PTO belt from the mower deck and the engine drive pulley.
Installing New Belt
Install PTO belt on engine drive pulley and mower deck.
NOTE: do not install PTO belt on left mower deck pulley.
Pull the idler arm towards the outside of the unit until PTO belt can be routed around left mower deck pulley.
Slowly release the idler arm until the idler pulley rests firmly against the PTO belt.
Install the belt covers back on to the mower deck.
Hopefully it was easier than you thought to replace a belt, and hopefully your mower is running like new again! Remember to always check your owners manual for recommended maintenance schedules and model specific information. Also frequently do a check of all the parts on your mower so if there is a part that needs replaced you can catch it right away!
