How to Replace the Air Filter on a Snapper Rear Engine Riding Mower

Changing the air filter on your mower is very easy. It is also one of the quickest forms of maintenance you can perform to keep your mower running like new!

In case you don't know how to do this, here are 7 simple steps that will teach you how to change the air filter in a Snapper Rear Engine Riding Mower.

What you will need:

  • Snapper Rear Engine Riding Mower
  • New Air Filter
  • New Pre-Cleaner
  • Water
  • Liquid Detergent

Be sure To check you Owner's Manual for model specific information and maintenance instructions.

Step 1:

Remove the fastener, and the air filter cover.

Step 2:

Remove the pre-cleaner (if equipped) and the filter.

Step 3:

To loosen debris, tap the filter gently against a solid surface, if it is still dirty, replace the filter with a new one.

Step 4:

If you have a pre-cleaner, wash it in water and some liquid detergent, then allow it to air dry completely. Remember, do not oil the pre-cleaner.

Step 5:

If you have a pre-cleaner, install it into the filter.

Step 6:

Install the filter and pre-cleaner(if applicable) into the base, be sure the filter is sitting securely in the base.

Step 7:

Install the air filter cover and secure with fastener, make sure the fastener is tightly secured.

Helpful Hints:

  • Your air filter and pre-cleaner (if equipped) should be changed after every 25 hours of use, or annually, whichever comes first.
  • If you live in dusty conditions or in an area where there are a lot of airborne debris, you should change you air filter more frequently.

How to Change the Oil on a Snapper Rear Engine Riding Mower

Keeping up with regular maintenance for you mower is very important, just like it is with your car!

However, you can save some labor costs by performing an oil change yourself. Here is a step-by-step list to teach you how to change the oil and filter in your Snapper Rear Engine Riding Mower at home!

Be sure to check your owner’s manual for model specific information about what oil and filters you should use on your machine.

Changing the oil and oil filter:

Step 1:

Lower the rear of the engine by placing bricks or wooden blocks under the front wheels of the mower.

Step 2:

Loosen or remove the oil fill cap on the engine.

Step 3:

Place a container with at least a 2 quart capacity under the end of the oil drain to catch the oil.

Step 4:

Remove or open the drain plug (this will depend on your model).

Step 5:

Allow enough time for all of the oil to drain, after all oil has drained replace or close the drain plug and wipe up any spillage.

Step 6:

Remove the oil filter and dispose of properly.

Step 7:

Lightly lubricate the new filters gasket with fresh, clean oil.

Step 8:

Install the oil filter by hand until the gasket contacts the oil filter adapter, then tighten the oil filter ½ to ¾ turns to be sure of a secure fit.

Check/ Add Oil:

Step 1:

Be sure the engine is level.

Step 2:

Be sure there are no debris around the oil fill area

Step 3:

Remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean cloth.

Step 4:

Insert and tighten the dipstick

Step 5:

Remove the dipstick and check the level, if the oil reaches the full/f mark it is good to go, if not, continue reading for how to add oil.

Step 5:

Add oil slowly, be sure not to over fill, wait one minute and recheck the level, repeat this process until the dipstick reads “full”.

Step 6:

Replace and tighten the dipstick.

 

It's a really easy job to change the oil in your mower on your own, be sure to keep up with the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual to keep you mower running at it's full potential!

 

Helpful Hints:

  • After the first 5 hours, change engine oil
  • Every 8 hours or daily, you should check the engine oil level
  • Every 50 hours, or annually- whichever comes first- you should change the engine oil and replace the oil filter

Replacing the Wheel on a Snapper Lawn Mower

Recommended Tools: Socket wrench, block of wood or support

Step 1:

Lift the front of the mower and place a block of wood under it for supports

Step 3:

Use a flat head screw driver to remove the hubcap

Step 4:

Use a socket wrench to remove the wheel nut

Step 5:

Remove the nut and washer, then the wheel

Step 6:

Place the new wheel onto the wheel mount and install the washer, then the nut and tighten with the socket wrence, be sure the wheel is not loose but spins freely.

Step 7:

Snap the hubcap back on

Step 1:

Disconnect the spark plug

Step 2:

Tip the mower on it's side, be sure the air filter and carburetor are facing up

Step 3:

Clamp the blade lock tool to the side of the mower deck, this will prevent the blade from rotating during removal

Step 4:

Loosen the blade bolt with a socket wrench, then remove the the bolt and the washer, before removing the blade take notice to how they are positioned, then remove the blade.

Step 5:

Insert the blade bolt into the new blade and attach it back onto the blade adapter

Step 6:

Once the bolt is threaded, tighten it with the socket wrench, or preferably a torque wrench (see owner's manual for suggested amount of torque), once tightened, remove the blade lock device
