How to Clean the Cutting Deck on Your Craftsman 46” Automatic Transmission Riding Mower

Maintain a high quality cut for your lawn by utilizing your mower’s deck wash system after every mow. This system will remove dirt and grass clumps throughout the deck to help extend the life of your blades and increase their efficiency.

When servicing your tractor, park on a level surface and disengage the mower blades. Lower the attachments all the way down, set the parking brake, and stop the engine. Take out the key and wait for the engine and attachments to completely stop moving before leaving the seat. Remove the spark plug or disconnect the negative battery cable before working on your tractor.

  • Step 1: Park your tractor on a level surface that is within reach of a garden hose.
  • Step 2: Disengage the PTO.
  • Step 3: Set the parking brake and turn the engine off.
  • Step 4: Place the hose coupler included with your manual onto your garden hose.
  • Step 5: Attach the hose coupler to the water port on your tractor’s deck.
  • Step 6: Turn on the water.
  • Step 7: Sit in the seat on the tractor. Start the engine and set the throttle to FAST (rabbit).
  • Step 8: Engage the PTO.
  • Step 9: While sitting in the tractor, allow the deck to be thoroughly cleaned for at least two minutes.
  • Step 10: Disengage the PTO.
  • Step 11: Turn the key to STOP to turn the engine off.
  • Step 12: Turn the water off and remove the hose coupler from the water port.
  • Step 13: If your deck has two water ports, repeat these steps for the second water port.
