How to Replace Mower Belts for an Ariens Apex

The following instructions are for the Ariens Apex, which are for the Apex 48 #991153, and Apex 52 #991155 mower models. Before attempting to work on/with your equipment in any way, always refer to your owner’s manual for safety information.

Remove PTO Belt

  1. Place the unit in service position.
  2. Position the mower deck at the lowest cutting height.
  3. Remove the hardware securing the belt covers to the deck and remove the belt covers.
  4. Slowly remove the spring hook form the anchor bolt to release tension from the belt idler.
  5. Remove the PTO belt

Remove Mower Drive Belt

  1. Remove the PTO belt.
  2. Slowly remove the spring hook from the anchor bolt to release tension from the belt idler.
  3. Remove the mower drive belt.

Install Mower Drive Belt

  1. Install the mower drive belt from around the bottom groove of the split pulley at the deck center and around the bottom groove of the right spindle pulley.
  2. Reinstall the idler spring hook around the anchor bolt to apply tension to the belt.

Install PTO Belt

  1. Important: The mower drive belt MUST be installed before the PTO belt.
  2. Install the PTO belt around the clutch sheave at the rear of the unit.
  3. Install the PTO belt around the top groove of the split pulley at the deck center and around the left spindle pulley.
  4. Align the belt with the idler pulleys.
  5. Reinstall the idler spring hook around the anchor bolt to apply tension to the belt.
  6. Important: Make sure the belts are correctly aligned in the pulleys.
  7. Reinstall the belt covers and secure it with the original hardware.
