How to Level the Deck on Your Troy-Bilt Pony Riding Lawn Tractor
Is your grass cutting unevenly? Too short or too high? Take a look at the level of your deck. It’s important that your deck is level to a certain extent from the front to the rear and from side to side. Adjusting your deck is potentially an easy solution to your problem.
Before servicing any power equipment, follow the safety instructions laid out in your owner’s manual. Make sure the equipment is completely stopped, cooled down, and that no parts are moving before attempting to service your equipment.
Front to Rear
- Step 1: Park your tractor on a flat and level surface.
- Step 2: Set the lift lever to the second notch from the top.
- Step 3: Rotate the blade so that it is parallel with the length of the tractor.
- Step 4: Measure the distance between the ground and the front of the blade tip.
- Step 5: Measure the distance between the ground and the rear of the blade tip.
- Step 6: Check to make sure the first measurement(front) is anywhere from 1/4” to 3/8” less than the second measurement(rear).
- Step 7: If this is not the case, find the flange lock nut that’s located on the front side of the stabilizer bracket.
- Step 8: Tighten the nut to raise the front of the deck and loosen it to lower the front of the deck.
- Step 9: Adjust until the front measurement is 1/4” to 3/8” less than the second measurement.
Side to Side
- Step 1: Park your tractor on a flat and level surface.
- Step 2: Set the lift lever to the second notch from the top.
- Step 3: Rotate the blades so that they’re perpendicular with the length of your tractor.
- Step 4: Measure the distance from the outside tip of the left blade to the ground.
- Step 5: Measure the distance from the outside tip of the right blade to the ground.
- Step 6: Make sure both measurements are equal.
- Step 7: If they are not, loosen the hex cap screw that’s on the left deck hanger bracket.
- Step 8: Use a wrench to turn the adjustment gear that’s just behind the hex cap screw. Clockwise for up, counterclockwise for down. Adjust until both measurements are equal.
- Step 9: Retighten the hex cap screw.
