How to Replace the Auger Belt on Your Craftsman Dual-Stage Snow Blower

You may need to replace your snow blower’s auger belt if the auger is not properly functioning. Frequently inspect the auger belt for signs of damage and excessive wear.

Before servicing any power equipment, follow the safety instructions laid out in your owner’s manual. Make sure the equipment is completely stopped, cooled down, and that no parts are moving before attempting to service your equipment.

  • Step 1: Run the engine until it stops to completely remove fuel from the tank. This will help to prevent spills while servicing the unit.
  • Step 2: Remove the two self-tapping screws from the plastic belt cover that’s on the front of the engine. Remove the plastic belt cover.
  • Step 3: Consider taking a picture of the layout and routing of the belt for future reference.
  • Step 4: Roll the auger belt off of the engine pulley.
  • Step 5: Position the snow thrower so that it is resting on the auger housing.
  • Step 6: Take the frame cover off of the bottom of the snow thrower. You will need to remove four screws before removing it.
  • Step 7: Remove the shoulder screw that is acting as a belt keeper.
  • Step 8: Detach the auger brake bracket spring from the frame.
  • Step 9: Take the belt off of the auger pulley and bring it between the support bracket and the auger pulley.
  • Step 10: Follow the steps in reverse order to reassemble the auger belt, using the picture you took as a reference if needed.
